I hesitate to admit that my yoga journey began more than five years ago when I overheard a much younger co-worker brag about the Groupon she had found for 30 Days of Unlimited Yoga for $30. I laughed and asked why it was SO expensive - I told her that I thought that sitting, standing, and stretching should be cheaper! After a heated discussion, one double-dog-dare, and a cash bet, my Groupon was purchased. I casually committed to 3 classes a week for the following 30 days.
After the first class, I wondered what I had gotten myself into; but I would not give up! I finished the first week in state of total shock. I was amazed to find out how physically and mentally challenging yoga was. I was intrigued! Not only did I finish the 30 day period to win the dare and the cash, but I also discovered that yoga was not just a sweaty work-out, but actually a practice of the mind, body, and soul. I was hooked
With years of practice and plenty of encouragement from teachers, classmates, and friends, I finally enrolled in the Yoga & Ayurveda Center Online Teacher Training program. The extensive course work and supportive community have provided a great foundation for learning and teaching. At the same time, I participated in a 200 hour Meditation and Mindfulness Teacher Training program from the School of Positive Transformation. I learned about sharing my mindfulness and meditation practices with others. Upon completing the transformative programs, I have realized that I have barely scratched the surface of what yoga and meditation are and can be for me and others.
I look forward to combining my 20+ years of education experience at the elementary and university levels with the tools gathered in my teacher training program to wholeheartedly explore the joys and wonders of all Eight Limbs of Yoga with new and experienced yogis alike.
